Imacts Of IT Developments On Tesco P2

Introduction
This post has been made to indentify and explain the Impacts IT developments have had on Tesco. I will also explain why they have been intorduced and the benefits they will bring.
New Tesco Clubcard App for the Iphone.
1) Features the on screen barcode that can be scanned at the till. It also allows you to see your live Tesco balnce.
2) Features the ability to calculate how many Tesco club points you can accumulate in a year.
3) Features the ability to calculate the amount of money you will spend based on your shopping habbits. E.g weekly shopping, monthly shopping etc.
4)Features the ability to allow the user to browse through all the items available in the store and see availablility and quantity in stock.
This will help Tesco gain customers as it will be very efficient for them to pull out their Iphone and use the app to get points. Also any updates Tesco make to the clubcards can be updated on the Iphones, meaning there won't be a need for customers to get new Clubcards. Also if a customer is to lose their Iphone they can just input the details of the card on their new phone and retrieve their club card and all its points.
This will have an impact on Tesco customers and the way procedures are carried out as they can use phones insetead of clubcards.
Self Service Checkouts
These have the customer buy their goods and price and pay for it themselves. This is due to them communicating with the system. This will impact Tesco as they can have staff work on other areas instead of the tills. This will save up staff time to do other work. This will increase staff productivity.
Tesco Online Shopping
Tesco can open up an e-commerce website from which customers can buy goods online. This means customers that may be too far away can shop at Tesco and have food delivered. This will get Tesco more customers who may be far away. The impact on Tesco will be that they won't have as many customers coming to the store, however this will also affect the customers aswell as they can buy from online and will avoid socialising as a part of shopping. It will also affect staff as they won't need to attend to a very large amount of customer, saving them time to do other tasks. However it may also mean that Tesco may need to make some memebers of staff redundant.

Explain the impact of IT developments on Tesco

IMPACT ON PROCEDURES
By introducing new IT developments Tesco's procedures will take drastic changes.
One of the new IT developments is more intelligent AI (Artificial Intelligecne). This means the systems used by managers will be more efficient in decision making. This would mean that Tesco would not need to carry out board meetings in order to decide whether they should stop bringing in certain stock and start bringing in new ones. The manager can just check it up on the system and will be able to make a decision in minutes. However the new procedures would have to be explained to existing staff and in the cases of using advanced computer systems, would have to be trained to use it.

IMPACT ON STAFF
Staff would need training with the new systems introduced. This can have a variety of impacts on staff. For instance, if there are staff memebers that have spent nearly all their lives working for Tesco, then it's likely they won't be used to using computers. In this case Tesco may have to make many long time staff memebers redundant, this would be very costly for a large organisation like Tesco. The cost would rise from both finding new staff recruits as well as paying those who've been made redundant their compensation.
